Caroline Wozniacki, Rory McIlroy’s former fiancee, made a surprise television appearance at the Masters as she gave an interview

Caroline Wozniacki, the ex-fiancee of Rory McIlroy, made a surprise TV appearance at the Masters as she spoke to ESPN about the iconic tournament at Augusta National

ESPN caught up with Grand Slam champion and Rory McIlroy’s former fiancee Caroline Wozniacki at the Masters – while the Northern Irishman was firing himself right back into contention.

McIlroy has already had a whirlwind week at Augusta. His wife Erica Stoll is in attendance, the pair making a telling gesture together earlier in the week, while their daughter Poppy was the star of the Par 3 contest. The 35-year-old experienced a disappointing late stumble on Day 1 and was accused of being “distracted” but bounced back to climb the leaderboard on Friday.

The four-time major winner scored a six-under-par round of 66 in the second round at Augusta, putting him back in contention. While fans were delighted to see his comeback, many were surprised by ESPN’s interview with Wozniacki as his rise up the leaderboard was beginning.

McIlroy and Wozniacki were in a relationship for several years and were even engaged in 2013. However, they abruptly ended their engagement over a phone call.

Caroline Wozniacki is attending the Masters at Augusta to soak in the experience and shared her thoughts with ESPN. The 2018 Australian Open champion expressed how iconic and meaningful the event is to her, comparing it to Wimbledon as a must-visit location for athletes.

“There’s so much tradition here,” she said. “Once you step onto the grounds, there’s something special about disconnecting from your phone and being fully present. You notice everything—it’s stunning. Getting to share this with my husband, just the two of us without kids or distractions, is really special.”

Wozniacki also noted the intensity of the competition, saying, “There’s so much pressure out here. The smallest mistake can change everything. These greens are so challenging that a slight misstep can turn a birdie opportunity into a struggle just to make bogey.”

She added that watching top athletes in action, regardless of the sport, is always inspiring. “It’s fascinating to watch the best in the world face challenges. That’s part of the appeal of the Masters.”

Wozniacki, who was previously engaged to Rory McIlroy, is now married to former NBA player David Lee. The couple, expecting their third child, have made their pick for this year’s Masters champion—and it’s not McIlroy.

“My husband David and I always choose a player before the tournament begins,” she explained. “This year, we’re backing Ludvig Åberg.”

The excitement at the Masters isn’t limited to golfers. ESPN’s coverage also included appearances from celebrities like former One Direction star Niall Horan and NFL quarterback Sam Darnold of the Seattle Seahawks.
