Phil Mickelson makes Masters feeling clear despite brutal Augusta experience.

Phil Mickelson is departing from the 89th Masters competition after his rounds of 75 and 74 resulted in missing the cut.

Golf great Phil Mickelson shared strong affection for the Masters tournament even after his unsuccessful Masters appearance this year. Out of the 87 initial players only 53 managed to advance beyond the first stages because the cut threshold was set at two-over.

A 74-second-round performance from Mickelson resulted in his failure to qualify for weekend play at Augusta National while he finished his tournament five-over.

He departs from the tournament together with other previous winners including Angel Cabrera, Sergio Garcia, Jose Maria Olazabal and Dustin Johnson.

Jack Nicklaus expressed doubts about Mickelson joining the tournament because he had recently moved to LIV Golf. Mickelson remains consistently active in professional golf since appearing in all events from 2021 into 2022 as well as the current four tournaments this year.

Despite securing two top-10 finishes in 2025, his performance wasn’t sufficient to stay in the competition.

“I had a lot of fun,” Mickelson remarked. “I wish I played better. I thought it was great. I thought that it was challenging with the wind today, but the greens were more receptive. I think they put some water on it knowing that. I thought it was playing, fun, great challenge, hard. It’s the Masters; I love everything about it”, reports the Mirror US.

“I’ve been playing good golf this year, and so I’m disappointed with my score this week. But I’ve been playing some good golf. I’ll get back at it here soon.”

Phil Mickelson expressed disappointment after failing to make the cut at the Masters despite feeling confident about his game.

It felt like this was a good week, a good opportunity for me, and unfortunately I didn’t score. It’s disappointing because I felt I was playing well enough to at least be in the hunt. Yeah, it’s exciting. It’s the Masters. The best players seem to rise. It’s going to be an exciting weekend.”

During TPC event Mickelson demonstrated his frustration because he failed to challenge for the Green Jacket. At that moment he felt convinced he would perform well yet resume his position in competition.

Our season at the tournament is so exceptional that missing one cut is surprising to me especially since my game had been strong before the tournament started.
