SAN FRANCISCO:
Tiger Woods is returning to golf after undergoing ankle surgery, giving fans hope that the 15-time major champion can return to competition soon.
A short video of Woods hitting wedges at The Hay, a par 3 course at Pebble Beach that he helped redesign, was posted to Woods’ social media accounts Saturday night. Woods appeared as his TGR Junior Invitational was played at the California resort, with the video being the first of Woods hitting a golf shot since he hurt his right ankle after withdrawing from the Masters.
Woods, who turns 48 in December, also shared a 45th-place finish at Riviera last February in his only other start this year. A serious leg injury from a car accident in 2021 has limited Woods’ ability to compete full-time on any type of PGA Tour schedule. Although Woods has not revealed any plans for another comeback, his invitation to the Hero World Challenge was scheduled for December in the Bahamas and he returned there. Also in December will be the PNC Championship, a parent-child event in which Woods has competed in the past with his son Charlie.
Woods, who was seen caddying for Charlie, was able to use the cart at the event. Others hope to see Woods lead the next US Ryder Cup team. Last Thursday, two-time U.S. Ryder Cup-winning captain Davis Love said Woods was the “next logical choice” for the job.
